Remembrance of Memphis Sanitation Workers
February 1, 2018 |
On the morning of February 1, 2018, City of Warren employees and elected officials gathered for a moment of reflection in honor of two African American sanitation workers who lost their lives to dangerous working conditions in Memphis, Tennessee. After the tragic incident claimed the lives of Echol Cole and Robert Walker on February 1, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. joined the Memphis Sanitation Workers' Strike. This would be Dr. King's final Civil Rights campaign before his assassination on April 4, 1968.
